Head of Valuation, Reporting and Analytics, Europe and Americas

The role is crucial for shaping and executing the control environment and ensuring the accuracy of HSBC's financial statements, particularly concerning the fair valuation of products across the Group. You will be responsible for leading the team developing methodologies feeding regulatory and financial reporting, managing controls around valuation models and processes, and ensuring high-standard governance and documentation. You will navigate interactions with regulators and auditors regarding valuation processes. The role involves independent price verification, financial analysis, reporting, and providing product expertise for traded products. It also includes driving conversations with stakeholders across the HSBC businesses, the CFOs and Controllership teams, making it a significant and rewarding position with opportunities to engage in new client and regulatory initiatives.

In this role, you will:
  • Development and control of Fair Value Methodology and Reporting: Responsible for the fair value methodology for relevant products on the HSBC Balance Sheet, including production and reporting, ensuring accuracy in financial statements.
  • Leadership and Management: Lead and manage the Global team focusing on the HSBC Group Balance Sheet in Europe and Americas, promoting a robust control framework and supporting the overall Product Control strategy.
  • Simplification and Efficiency: Drive simplification objectives by identifying synergies and opportunities for efficiency, working with Analytics engineering teams and Finance change on process consistency and standardisation.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Manage extensive interactions within the Controllership team, broader Finance, Internal Audit, and external stakeholders like PWC, PRA, and ECB, ensuring accountability and fulfilling the role as controller and gatekeeper.
  • Member of the Valuation Management Team: Assist the Global Head in managing the global team, setting frameworks, and executing substantial initiatives across businesses and products with multiple stakeholders.
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
  • Product Knowledge: A solid understanding of derivative and linear traded products, including fair value, profit/loss, trade reviews, and balance sheet reporting. Familiarity with the quantitative requirements of pricing models is also important.
  • Fair Value Expertise: Detailed and recent experience of Fair Value concepts, Fair Value Adjustment processes, and the measurement, management, financial reporting and control around these areas (e.g., mathematical models, coding).
  • Controls Experience: Demonstrable financial and non-financial risk management experience.
  • Leadership Experience: Proven leadership experience with the ability to build connections and work collaboratively across boundaries. You should be able to provide sound counsel to senior leaders.
  • Strategic Initiative Formulation: Ability to formulate, disseminate, and implement firm-wide strategic initiatives on model and model governance.
  • Team Management: Experience in driving a technical and diverse team with quantitative, financial, and accounting acumen.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong knowledge of the global and regional/country regulatory landscape and the ability to assess the impact of market shifts and rule changes on the bank's model environment.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Experience in resolving complex issues through leadership, influence, and negotiation.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication, influencing, and interpersonal skills, with a strong track record of engaging, challenging, and influencing business performance in a large global bank.
  • Industry Relationships: Ability to build and maintain relationships with key industry players, peers and regulators to influence policy decisions that protect the bank's customers interests.
  • Financial Communication Framework: Expertise in developing and institutionalising a financial communication framework, including processes, timelines, standards, and guidelines.
  • Stakeholder Relationship Management: The ability to develop effective working relationships with stakeholders of different seniority and geographical locations is crucial.

The base location for this role will be London and with a hybrid working pattern.
