Head of Engineering / Development (contract)

We are seeking an experienced Head of Engineering / Development for my clients B2B SaaS organisation. Leading on strategic growth of the technology and product initiatives, the organisation is set to enter the next phase of their growth journey and in this role, you will be responsible for overseeing and integrating product feature innovation, platform maintenance, and overall system architecture as they scale up the suite of solutions.

This role is both technical and people, hands‑on leadership. For someone who thrives in a dynamic, fast‑moving environment, enjoys balancing strategic priorities with operational challenges, and is passionate about creating products that scale efficiently and is willing to roll‑up sleeves and get involved at all levels.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead efforts to stabilise the product and platform, tackling technical debt and enhancing system reliability.
  • Define and drive engineering, product, and technical strategies that align with growth objectives.
  • Introduce and maintain modern technology stacks, processes, and best practices.
  • Oversee, mentor, and guide a team of developers, architects, and DevOps specialists.
  • Work closely with stakeholders across IT, Service, and Sales to ensure the product roadmap supports overall business goals.
  • Establish and maintain high standards in software quality, DevOps processes, and engineering practices.
  • Champion agile methodologies and ensure product priorities reflect business objectives.
Key Requirements
  • Minimum 15 years of software development experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Tech stack: C#, .NET Core, VB.NET, SQL, RabbitMQ, Azure, Python, JavaScript.
  • Strong architectural experience with cloud migration, microservices, risk management, and scaling systems.
  • Proven experience in B2B SaaS environments, particularly in scale‑ups managing short-, medium-, and long‑term priorities.
  • Strong technical foundation in software development, architecture, and infrastructure.
  • Hands‑on, pragmatic leader with excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experienced in leading cross‑functional teams spanning engineering, product, and DevOps.
  • Skilled at developing and scaling SaaS products or complex software platforms, ideally with experience in system integrations.
  • Adept at implementing agile development practices, continuous delivery, and DevOps automation.
  • Capable of balancing rapid feature delivery with technical debt management.
  • Comfortable in high‑growth, scale‑up environments where innovation and flexibility are critical.
  • Experienced in working with remote or distributed teams.
