Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a General Practitioner to join our healthcare teams at HMP Five Wells, a category C prison located in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. The site supports around 1,670 patients, the majority aged between 30-39; a cohort of elderly patients has recently joined who will need support with long-term conditions. This role would suit a GP who enjoys delivering end-to-end care in a modern clinical environment and working closely with a large multi-disciplinary team, including another General Practitioner.

Hours Monday or Friday 8.30am-5pm, 8 hours/2 sessions per week

Salary You’ll receive an annual salary up to £125,000 per annum FTE – depending on experience

Main duties of the job

Our General Practitioners are valued and respected members of the Prison Healthcare community. As a General Practitioner, your responsibilities will include:

  • Deliver first-class healthcare to a diverse group of patients; opportunities to develop knowledge beyond typical practice settings, including A&E environments
  • Provide clinical assessment and diagnosis to patients’ requirements and make timely decisions regarding future management
  • Provide a highly specialist resource to other members of the healthcare team on site and contribute to clinical governance and effectiveness activities

Qualifications required

  • MBChB or MBBS
  • Inclusion on the GMC Register and GP Performers List
  • Evidence of engagement with annual appraisal
  • Experience working as a General Practitioner in community general practice
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Ability to work with patients with a history of substance misuse
  • RCGP Certificate in Substance Misuse 1 and 2, or prepared to undertake these qualifications
