Job description
Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a General Practitioner to join our Primary Care team at HMP Pentonville, a category B remand Prison located in Islington close to Caledonian Road Station. The site houses around 1180 male patients aged 18+, many of whom have complex health needs. Ideal applicants will be passionate about working with disadvantaged patients and comfortable in a busy environment supporting primary care, substance misuse and mental health needs.

Hours

This position will involve a mixture of standard and long days. Standard day: 2 sessions/8 hours. Long day: 3 sessions/12 hours. Applicant must be able to work late evenings up to 10pm.

Salary

This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week. The salary is up to £130,000 per annum depending on experience.

Legal and security

Candidates are required to have a legal right to work in the UK and due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.

Main duties of the job
  • Deliver first class healthcare to a diverse group of patients and develop knowledge in areas not usually experienced within a typical practice or A&E environment.
  • Provide clinical assessment and diagnosis to patients’ requirements and make timely decisions regarding future management.
  • Provide a highly specialist resource to other members of the healthcare team at the site and to patients, with involvement in clinical governance and effectiveness activities.

Qualifications
  • MBChB or MBBS
  • Inclusion on the GMC Register and GP Performers List
  • Evidence of engagement with annual appraisal
  • Experience working as a General Practitioner in community general practice
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Ability to work with patients with a history of substance misuse
  • RCGP Certificate in Substance Misuse 1 and 2, or prepared to undertake these qualifications
