Job description

Gas Odorant Engineer People Solutions are currently recruiting for a Gas Odorant Engineer to join our client based in West Bromwich, West Midlands , on a full-time permanent basis.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on day-to-day maintenance, planned preventative maintenance, and project operations across gas odorant plants and delivery equipment.

The role offers extensive travel across the UK and Ireland, hands-on experience with chemical processes, and excellent opportunities for career development.

Shifts & Compensation
  • Monday to Friday, 38 hours per week
  • Salary £45,000 per annum

Day-to-Day Duties
  • Fault find and carry out smell investigations on delivery systems
  • Conduct periodic examinations of hoses, relief valves, ladders / steps, and protective devices
  • Prepare delivery tankers for 36 and 72-month insurance inspections
  • Respond to offsite incidents involving delivery systems across the UK and Republic of Ireland at short notice
  • Fill and deliver odorant, recharge scrubbers, and operate hired vehicles as required
  • Escort deliveries to Ireland and provide support during breakdowns or environmental incidents
  • Organise accommodation for personnel when working away from West Bromwich
  • Transfer odorant to site static storage tanks on Bio-Methane sites
  • Recharge carbon adsorbers and decontaminate saturated carbon for disposal
  • Support customer technical requirements, including site visits, HazOps planning, decontamination procedures, and preparation of method statements, risk assessments, and COSHH documentation
  • Carry out customer site tasks such as replacing couplings, removing odorant, or dismantling odorising systems
Essential Skills
  • HND in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience working in chemical plants
  • Passport to Gas Safety certification for gas terminals and AGIs SCO91 training as a competent person for acceptance of permits on customer sites
  • ADR licence for transporting dangerous goods by road
  • Certification in the use of Breathing Apparatus (escape and rescue)
  • Banksman experience
  • Slinging and lifting experience
  • Flexibility to travel extensively across the UK and Ireland, including overnight stays
Desirable Experience
  • Previous experience in gas odorant operations or chemical plant maintenance
  • Knowledge of delivery vehicle and plant inspection processes
  • Experience supporting customer technical projects and on-site decontamination operations
