SEN Teaching Assistant – SEMH Specialist

Location: Lewisham
Availability: Full-time
Start Date: Immediate

Do you thrive on making a difference for pupils who need a bit of extra support? We’re looking for a calm, confident, and caring SEN Teaching Assistant to work with children who have social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.

The role

You’ll be a steady presence in the classroom, helping pupils regulate emotions, build trust, and access learning. Working closely with teachers and the SENCO, you’ll be part of a team that celebrates every small step of progress.

Your day-to-day will include:

  • Supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups
  • Using de-escalation strategies and positive behaviour approaches
  • Helping create a safe, structured space where pupils can learn and grow
  • Working with therapists, teachers, and parents to keep support consistent

  • Experience working with SEMH needs (school, PRU, or youth work background welcome)
  • A calm, resilient approach and great communication skills
  • Someone who can build relationships and bring patience, positivity, and consistency
