Job summary

A prominent NHS Trust in the UK is looking for qualified Foundation pharmacists to join their team. This role offers rotations across clinical areas including acute medicine and oncology, supported by a large Foundation pharmacist programme. The successful candidates will develop clinical skills and participate in a 24-hour pharmacy service. This is a 3-year fixed-term contract that includes a post graduate Pharmacy Practice diploma. Applications are welcome from trainee pharmacists due to register in 2026 and qualified pharmacists new to the hospital environment.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of what an out of hours hospital pharmacy service is.
  • Significant training as a hospital trainee pharmacist or relevant post registration experience.
  • Experience of validation of prescriptions to ensure the legal, safe and effective use of medicines.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in evening and weekend rotas to provide pharmacy service.
  • Develop and embed clinical knowledge and skills for patient care.
  • Deliver responsive professional pharmacist cover in various areas.

We have alarge well established Foundation pharmacist programme which provides awealth of opportunity and you will be fully supported throughout. The post isan excellent starting point for those wishing to develop their clinicalknowledge and skills for a career in hospital pharmacy.

OurFoundation pharmacists are integrated across our clinical and operationalteams and contribute to providing medicines supply and advice services 24hours a day, 7 days a week.

Wewelcome applications from Trainee Pharmacists who are due to register in thesummer of 2026 and from qualified pharmacists who are new to the hospitalenvironment.

Main duties of the job

OurFoundation Pharmacist programme offers rotations through a variety ofclinical areas such as acute medicine, elderly, surgery, paediatrics,neurology, oncology and cardiology. Throughout the programme you will besupported to develop and embed your clinical knowledge and skills to ensuredelivery of excellent patient centred care from day one.

Complementingthis, you will develop your skills in Medicines Information, Aseptics andMedicines supply services by delivering responsive professional pharmacistcover in these areas.

Asa first year Foundation pharmacist you will participate in evening andweekend rotas and from year 2 progress to work variable shifts(8.45-5.15pm/5pm-1am or 12am-8am) to provide our 24-hour pharmacy service.This rota is supported by experienced pharmacists through an on call fromhome rota which you would contribute to in your third year.

Thisis a 3-year fixed-term contract, during which the successful candidate willundertake and complete a post graduate Pharmacy Practice diploma.
