Key Responsibilities

First Step Into Rail Scheme's objective is focused on equipping young people who are currently not in employment, training or education with the skills and experience that employers are looking for. Greater Anglia is offering a select number of young people to jump on board to experience working life on the railway. 3-week vocational training combines soft skills with a hands‑on placement at one of our hub stations.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain work experience and get an insight into one of the country's leading rail network operators! If you are successful, you will be based at one of our stations alongside experienced colleagues and management who will support and introduce you to the ins and outs of the trade.

Greater Anglia partners with Central Training Group to deliver Early Careers schemes that help unlock your greater potential and give young people confidence and a stepping stone with much‑needed work preparation training and experience needed to get an apprenticeship or future employment.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Over the years Greater Anglia have had some brilliant and ambitious young people complete similar schemes. As a result, some have applied and successfully progressed into roles within the business. Some have since enrolled in Greater Anglia's apprenticeship programme to further upskill and develop their knowledge, skills, and behaviours.

What this will lead to

After successful completion of the programme, not only will you gain much‑desired work experience to add to your CV, but you will also receive a certificate of completion and a letter of reference to support future job applications.

  • Progression is important to us here at Greater Anglia and most importantly we are looking for individuals to grow within the business. Upon successful completion there could be an opportunity within the wider business you can apply for and put your theory into practice by following our recruitment process and applying directly for vacancies.
  • Please note that the programme is unwaged, however, free travel on GA lines will be included during your time on the scheme.

We are looking for individuals with a can‑do attitude, professionalism, and a friendly and flexible approach as no two days will be the same.

Please note, that placements on the scheme is subject to the eligibility criteria.
