A regional police authority in Downham Market is inviting applications for the role of Firearms Enquiry Officer. The successful candidate will conduct enquiries regarding the suitability to possess firearms and carry out mid-term assessments of certificate holders within Norfolk and Suffolk. Essential skills include investigative abilities, effective communication, and knowledge of firearms licensing law. Experience in firearms handling is desirable. Applications are invited for the above post based at Downham Market Police Station, to work as part of a team, within the Joint Firearms Licensing Unit, conducting comprehensive enquiries in relation to applicants and holder’s suitability to possess firearms, shotguns and explosives.
Duties will include conducting enquiries of individuals, clubs and registered firearms dealers, inspection of firearms, security issues and land suitability. However, the primary responsibility of the post holder will be to carry out mid-term suitability assessments (Grade As) of certificate holders across Norfolk and Suffolk, with regards to adverse incidents, and offences in relation to firearms licensing.
