Qualifications

Overview

Commissioning Engineer – Fire Alarm Systems (Install / Commissioning / Small Works). Location: Reading + surrounding area. Salary: Competitive industry base plus uncapped bonus scheme. Trinity is seeking a skilled and motivated Works Engineer to join our established South Coast team. This role offers the opportunity to work on high‑profile, critical sites across the Thames region, delivering expertly commissioned fire alarm solutions. You will be responsible for the installation and commissioning of fire alarm and life‑safety systems in complex, multi‑panel environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out all necessary works at customer premises in accordance with the Company’s quality standards.
  • Effectively communicate with customers to ensure a good understanding of system and site status.
  • Liaise with works administrators and other internal stakeholders to meet our commitments.
  • Work to a planned commission and small works schedule.

The systems you will work with at Trinity Fire include Gent, Notifier, Advanced, Protec, and other open‑protocol systems.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience in commissioning, installing and completing small works fire alarm systems to relevant British Standards.
  • Ability to identify all types of cable associated with fire detection systems and correctly test and terminate the cable ends in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions.
  • A logical approach to system fault diagnosis and rectification.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic Electrical Safety training (ECA).
Technical Knowledge
  • Understand the basic building services to test cause and effect of fire alarm interfaces.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the causes and cures of fire alarm problems, including ability to recommend changes to practices and processes that may cause false alarms.
  • Recommend changes to the systems where appropriate.
