Job Summary

This is a new role to support the delivery of a high‑standard, efficient, and safe Fibroscan service in a new clinic to enable launching a pioneering Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) clinic for direct referrals from local primary and secondary care providers. Creating a seamless and efficient pathway from referral, diagnosis and treatment.

Main duties of the job
  • Perform Fibroscan assessments independently, ensuring accurate and high‑quality results, in accordance with local and national protocols (training provided).
  • Prepare patients for the procedure, explaining the process and addressing any concerns.
  • Maintain and organise calibration of Fibroscan equipment in accordance with manufacturer and NHS protocols.
  • Record and report findings clearly and promptly to the supervising clinician or nurse specialist, utilising the reporting system and flagging results which require escalation.
  • Ensure infection control and patient safety standards are upheld at all times.
  • Liaise with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and follow‑up.
  • Identify and contact appropriate patients using hospital systems.
  • Participate in training and development activities to maintain competency and service excellence.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date records and ensure timely reporting to management and clinicians.
  • Liaise with multidisciplinary teams including consultants, CNSs, admin staff and GPs.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, including appointment reminders and procedure explanations.
  • Assist in raising awareness of liver disease through health promotion.
  • Be proactive and efficient in managing own caseload.

Job Description

The Fibroscan Technician will play a key role in delivering non‑invasive liver assessments using transient elastography (Fibroscan) technology within the CDC at Northgate and JPUH and secondary care settings. Working under the supervision of the radiology, liver specialist nurse and clinical team, the postholder will support early detection and monitoring of liver disease via the use of Fibro Scan, contributing to improved patient outcomes and streamlined diagnostic pathways.

Essential
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification or relevant experience
