Overview

Facilities & Support Services Co‑ordinator – Montacute House, South Somerset Portfolio, National Trust. This role supports day‑to‑day operations of the historic heritage site, ensuring the entire property is safe, welcoming and maintained to the Trust’s high standards of conservation and visitor experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate routine building tasks, compliance work and contractor activities to keep facilities in excellent condition.
  • Administer regular maintenance schedules, access arrangements and safety inspections.
  • Support cross‑portfolio teams, assisting the Facilities Manager and Operations Manager as required.
  • Manage records, digital platforms and Microsoft Office tools to track work, communications and marketing tasks.
  • Assist with visitor planning, emergency procedures and all safety legislation, ensuring compliance across public areas.
  • Collaborate with staff, volunteers and external partners to deliver high‑standard service to over 150,000 annual visitors.
  • Develop and champion best practice within the facilities team, challenging the norm where improvements can be made.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience in a facilities or business support role within a customer‑service environment.
  • NVQ Level 2 qualification or equivalent (IWFM Associate Level 3 certificate preferred).
  • Numerate with basic financial skills and record‑keeping ability.
  • Knowledge of health & safety, fire, security procedures, emergency and diversity & equality legislation.
  • Strong organisational and attention‑to‑detail skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to multi‑task and work collaboratively across departments.
  • Advanced IT skills – Microsoft Office, records management systems and experience with asset management software.

About Montacute House

Montacute House is an Elizabethan hamstone manor in picturesque Montacute village, surrounded by formal gardens, parkland and historic woodland. The Trust owns the house and surrounding 1,080 ha of landscaped grounds. The site attracts over 150,000 visitors each year and is open 363 days per year.

Future Projects

Starting late 2025 the house will undergo a major repair and strengthening project for both staircases. The project will enable the building to be accessed on all levels again, creating an even more welcoming environment for visitors.
