Experienced Gardener - Vacancy

A long term opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic sole gardener and ground maintenance person in a beautiful 2 acre private garden surrounding a grade 2 listed family home ten miles west of Salisbury in Wiltshire. The garden flows naturally down to a beautiful river setting, with artificial ponds and waterways accompanying the main river. The garden includes formal areas, structured yews and box hedging, wild flower areas, seasonal pots, a cutting bed and a fruit cage. The river area is kept predominantly wild.

The gardener will be hands on and responsible for the day to day maintenance and care of all garden areas, which includes some herbaceous planting, maintaining lawns, hedges and wild flower areas. We have a good selection of garden equipment including ride on mowers, and you will be responsible for ensuring these are all kept in good working order and managing a maintenance schedule with our workshop.

You will work closely with the owners, who are enthusiastic gardeners, and appreciate their beautiful surroundings. You will help them to achieve their vision with continuous development of new planting plans and other ideas to enhance the whole setting. The ability to work independently, take ownership of the role and a desire to maintain high standards is essential.

This is a privately owned 3rd generation family estate, and you will liaise with others from the farm who are available to help with larger tasks where required. Additional responsibilities include leaf blowing across driveways and other formal garden areas, and undertaking other garden and property maintenance tasks as required on an ad hoc basis to assist with the smooth running of the house and buildings. The ideal candidate will be practical and multi skilled in both gardening and practical skills.

This is a physically demanding position where most of the time will be spent outdoors and so you should be fit and strong, and comfortable working in all weathers. It is important to the family that this individual is kind and personable, and can fit in with the family routine.

Salary: up to £40,000 per year, depending on experience

Working hours are Monday to Friday, 8.00 am to 4.30 pm, with 21 days holiday, plus bank holidays. Candidates will need to provide evidence of experience, suitable references and a full driving licence.
