Job description

Estimator required to join a well-established engineering company based in the Newcast-Upon-Tyne area. The successful Estimator will come from a Welding or CNC Machining background and will be required to analyse complex requirements.

Estimator Job Overview

Review engineering drawings, technical specifications, and customer requirements to prepare accurate cost estimates. Develop quotations and proposals for sheet metal fabrication, welding, and CNC machining projects. Calculate labour, material, tooling, and subcontractor costs. Collaborate with sales, engineering, and production teams to ensure feasibility and accuracy of estimates. Source and evaluate material and supplier costs to maintain competitiveness. Maintain a database of cost standards, pricing, and historical project data. Assist in negotiations with customers and suppliers as required. Monitor awarded projects to ensure alignment between estimated and actual costs, identifying areas for improvement. Provide technical input and support during project planning stages.

Estimator Job Requirements
  • Proven experience as an Estimator in an engineering, fabrication, or manufacturing environment (preferably sheet metal, welding, and CNC machining).
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, CAD models, and technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of ISO 3834 is very advantageous.
  • Knowledge of materials (metals, alloys, etc.), machining processes, and fabrication techniques.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with ERP/MRP systems is an advantage.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple estimates simultaneously.
Estimator Salary & Benefits
