Job Overview

TeacherActive is working with a well known and well respected mainstream secondary school in the Derby area. The school have high aspirations and offer fantastic support to all of its staff.

Role Details

The school is looking to take on an English teacher starting in January 2026 on a long-term, full-time cover for the remainder of the 2025/6 academic year. The successful applicant will be working across both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, including exam preparation for GCSEs, and will also include some drama lessons.

Responsibilities

• Work across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4
• Deliver exam preparation for GCSEs
• Teach some drama lessons
• Implement schemes of learning to help students achieve excellent results in the subject

Qualifications

• Graduate with Qualified Teacher Status
• Outstanding teacher in English with a strong teaching record
• Relevant qualifications (formal or appropriate experience) to meet the challenge of the appointment
• Excellent in-depth knowledge of the place of the English curriculum within the wider curriculum, and of the importance of a rigorous reading strategy to ensure student confidence and reading fluency
