Overview

Salary range: £50,000 - £60,000 (plus London Weighting £5,441pa if London based), depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights. We’re happy to discuss flexible working. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE: We are seeking an Employment Tax Advisor to join the BBC Tax team. This is a permanent role, based in London. This role sits in Group Tax and reports to the Employment Tax finance business partner, alongside five finance business partners and a team of accountants and a trainee. There are also tax managers in the US and India who support taxes in those jurisdictions. The BBC offers a complex and dynamic environment that provides technical development through exposure to a wide range of issues and stakeholders, both internally and externally.

The Employment Tax Advisor role centres around supporting the BBC Group to meet statutory obligations in respect of Employment Tax. The role will be a mix of compliance and advisory and will provide breadth of experience across the Employment Tax space. You will provide professional Employment Tax support to a range of stakeholders, ensuring the BBC Group meets Employment Tax compliance obligations. You will be part of the BBC Group Tax team, reporting to the Employment Tax Finance Business Partner.

Responsibilities and impact
  • Provide advice and support relating to the employment tax (ET) issues of our UK and overseas businesses. This includes working closely with colleagues to drive business performance via objective advice, insight and challenge.
  • Support the UK businesses with HMRC reviews; assist in developing our relationship with HMRC.
  • Provide updates and recommendations to the business, including HR and Payroll, on new ET legislation. This includes leading the Mandatory payrolling of benefits project.
  • Provide technical review and analysis of annual ET filings including the PSAs and forms P11D, as well as exploring innovative solutions to expedite processes.
  • Continuously evaluate how existing Employment Tax processes across the BBC group can be aligned, improved, automated and made more efficient while ensuring governance, risk management and internal controls.
  • Support the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures, including providing Employment Tax input to wider initiatives such as Senior Accounting Officer requirements.

Qualifications and experience
  • Experience providing employment tax advice in a complex organisation; ability to deal with ambiguity, incomplete data, and time constraints while delivering practical advice.
  • Professional accounting and/or tax qualification (ACA, ATT, CTA or equivalent).
  • Organised with the ability to multi-task and prioritise to meet deadlines.
  • Stakeholder management – ability to build relationships and trust within an organisation.
  • Collaborative working – effective within a diverse team.
  • Desirable but not required: in-house experience.
