Emergency Development Fellowship (EDF)

Fixed Term, 6 months from 4th February 2026

Salary Scale - £45,504 - £71,550 per annum (pro rata if less than full time)

Looking for a new and exciting challenge? Then think about working in NHS Forth Valley in the heart of Scotland.

Applications are invited from trainee doctors having completed or are about to finish UK Foundation Programmes to apply for the positions of Emergency Development Fellow (EDF). We would also welcome applications from more senior trainees who would like to use the EDF programme to refocus or realign the direction of their careers.

This exciting role offers a 6 month post working in the Emergency Department at Forth Valley Royal Hospital. As well as practicing evidence-based, realistic medicine in a busy training department, this post offers the opportunity for a placement in another specialty (average of 16 Hours per week over 3 months). In addition EDFs will have 6 hours per week of development time and 2 hours of in-house training.

We work as a multidisciplinary nursing and medical team assessing and managing 64,000 adult and paediatric patients per annum across a full spectrum of emergency presentations. You will be part of this Consultant led team and have development opportunities for quality improvement, undergraduate teaching or simulation. We have close links with the Scottish Centre for Simulation and Clinical Human Factors which is on site. Previous post holders have gone on to pursue careers in Emergency and Acute Medicine, Primary Care and surgical specialties. They have also produced posters and presented their quality Improvement and simulation work at national conferences.
