Job description

We are delighted to offer the opportunity for Band 4 Emergency Department Technician (EDT), a new role being introduced in our Emergency department to support the care we give to patients. The role will be to work as an EDT assisting the delivery of emergency care within a specialist area. The responsibilities include assisting and supporting the medical and nursing staff in the emergency department, performing tasks, performing blood test analysis in the ED PoCT laboratory in accordance with SOPs, and carrying out specialised testing at the request of the nursing and medical team. The position contributes to the safe transfer of patients who are critically ill or injured with the London North West University Hospitals Trust.

Role Responsibilities
  • Perform sample analysis on ED lab analyzers in accordance with SOPs and specialist testing.
  • Preparation of procedural trolleys and assist nursing medical staff in performing sterile clinical procedures.
  • Provide support to nursing and medical team by assisting with the preparation and delivery of care for level 2/3 patients.
  • Ensure maintenance of equipment is maintained to keep the department safe and patients safe.
  • Carry out audits and training in relation to equipment and safe use.
  • Ensure appropriate prioritisation of workload under instruction of the nurse in charge.
  • Undertake venepuncture and cannulation for patients & obtain results.
