Job Description

Our client, a Tier 1 Civil Engineering contractor, is seeking an Electrical Project Engineer to join their team covering the Basingstoke and London areas on a permanent basis.

Project Engineer (MEICA) - The Role

As a Project Engineer within the MEICA business, you will bring demonstrable MEICA or industrial installation experience and practical skills to the team. You will provide detailed technical input to the project, ensuring works are safe and meet specifications prior to implementation. The Project Engineer will focus on achieving safety targets with zero tolerance for unsafe practices and occurrences.

You will actively engage the project construction team in successful project delivery. Working closely with the Project Manager and the project team, you will ensure that activities are planned and executed to meet project requirements safely and cost-effectively. You will also contribute to customer satisfaction and uphold quality standards.

Our client's civil engineering and infrastructure projects vary in value, complexity, and duration, from established frameworks to bespoke projects and emergency works. Project values range from £200k to over £10m. Your role will be essential in driving efficiencies, managing MEICA elements, and maintaining high standards in project activities.

Responsibilities
  1. Supporting the Project Management team in delivering MEICA projects.
  2. Producing functional specifications, selecting contractors, and ensuring scope delivery on time.
  3. Providing data to the Commercial manager/QS regarding variation orders and site instructions.
  4. Managing suppliers across technical disciplines.
  5. Liaising with consultants, subcontractors, and project stakeholders, including attending meetings to report progress.
  6. Developing and reviewing tender documents for consultants and construction works.
  7. Understanding project risks and coordinating mitigation activities.
  8. Carrying out technical assurance checks and audits during project phases.
  9. Assisting in resolving engineering issues and ensuring quality control.
  10. Managing multiple engineering aspects from inception to completion, ensuring standards are met.
  11. Collaborating with stakeholders to understand requirements and objectives.
  12. Developing project plans, schedules, and budgets.
  13. Supporting the preparation of technical drawings, schematics, and documentation.
  14. Providing technical guidance and mentorship to the project team.
  15. Ensuring safety compliance and coordinating risk mitigation.
  16. Coordinating with other disciplines for integrated designs.
  17. Participating in site visits and inspections.
  18. Troubleshooting MEICA issues during project execution.
  19. Ensuring adherence to codes, standards, and best practices.
  20. Managing project documentation.
  21. Providing technical support to clients.
  22. Staying updated with technological advancements.
  23. Preparing progress reports and presentations.
Key Measures and Targets

Understanding project risks, ensuring safety compliance, and maintaining excellent stakeholder relationships.

Key Relationships

MEICA Director, Regional Managers, Project Managers, Site teams, clients, and technical assurance teams.

About You

Essential Skills: Strong communication, team coordination, organizational skills, leadership, problem-solving, time management, relevant degree, safety qualifications, and experience in similar roles.

Desirable Skills: WIMES standards, utilities industry experience, program management, contract knowledge, and safety certifications.
