Role: Electrical Design Engineer

Type: Full Time

Pay: £50,000 per annum

Hours: Monday to Thursday 7:30 - 16:00, Friday 7:30 - 12:30

Location: Birmingham

Are you an Electrical Design Engineer looking for your next opportunity? I'm currently representing a leading Manufacturing company based in Birmingham and they're looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to join them on a permanent basis.

Job Description
  • Produce and maintain electrical design documentation (performance calculations, test plans, material/component justifications).
  • Ensure compliance with electrical designs with customer specifications, safety standards, and legislative requirements.
  • Prepare detailed electrical drawings (schematic and wiring) and Bills of Materials using SolidWorks Electrical / E-Plan.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers to deliver fully integrated design solutions.
  • Support the transition of detailed designs into manufacture.
  • Follow the design process to ensure all mitigations and approvals are in place at the correct stage.
Essential Experience/Skills/Qualifications
  • Degree-qualified engineer with at least 3 years' technical experience in MOD, Aerospace/Defence, or Marine sectors.
  • Strong power and electrical design capability, including system design and component selection.
  • Proven experience in control and instrumentation, plus knowledge of variable speed drives, motor starter panels, distribution systems, and PLC/control systems (ProfiBus, ProfiNet, TIA Portal).
  • Competence in FMEA, safety assessments, and reliability analysis.
  • Understanding of testing and automation, including NI hardware, LabVIEW, and test plan development.
  • Proficiency in E-Plan and/or SolidWorks Electrical (or alternative CAD systems), with hands-on engineering experience and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
