Overview

Editorial Assistant - Science

Manchester City Centre (close to public transport routes and local amenities within a short walking distance)

3 days per week (Monday and Thursday office-based days, 1 day work from home)

Salary starting from £13.00 - £15.00 per hour (negotiable depending on experience)

About the role

Join a leading publishing house that is passionate about advancing scientific knowledge and innovation. Our client is dedicated to producing high-quality publications that inspire and inform the scientific community. They are looking for an enthusiastic Editorial Assistant to help drive editorial processes and contribute to exciting projects. Initially this is a 1 month contract and will be reviewed monthly.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the editorial process by coordinating submissions and managing communications with freelancers
  • Help maintain high editorial standards by proofreading and editing documents ensuring business tone is aligned with the piece
  • Organise and track your own workload to ensure it aligns with publication deadlines for release
  • Collaborate with the editorial team to develop content for various scientific publications
  • Review and edit a variety of documents, including but not limited to scientific publications, marketing materials and website content
  • Have your own allocated documents to proofread, amend daily
  • Provide suggestions for improving overall written content
Desirable qualifications
  • A degree in a relevant scientific discipline would be beneficial although not essential, an English degree would also be advantageous for this role
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills proven in a workplace
  • Excellent attention to detail and proofreading abilities - excellent command of grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to spot errors
  • Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with editorial software
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Previous experience in editorial or publishing roles is essential
  • Understanding of the publishing process, especially in scientific contexts
  • MS Office Suite
  • Editorial management systems (familiarity preferred)
  • Basic knowledge of content management systems
