Job Title: Ecologist

Location: Brighton

This is an opportunity to join an eco-conscious, well-respected ecological and environmental planning consultancy, lending expertise to a diverse range of projects across the public and private sectors. They are seeking an enthusiastic Ecologist to work on challenging projects alongside a growing team in Brighton and Hove.

Responsibilities
  • Undertaking fieldwork and ecological surveys to gather data and inform reports and assessments (e.g., Protected Species Licence Applications).
  • Producing reports and assessments for review by senior colleagues.
  • Contributing to a range of projects, working as part of a high-performing team and on own initiative.
  • Engaging with clients across the public and private sectors.
  • Representing the company on projects across the local area and further afield.
Required skills and experience
  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in Ecology (or related discipline).
  • Some experience within a UK-based ecological consultancy (or Local Authority, in a relevant role).
  • Confident in conducting fieldwork and in analyzing and interpreting data to inform reports and assessments, including EIA, EcIA, planning applications, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good time management, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work on your own initiative as well as in a team.
  • Full, valid UK driving licence with own vehicle and willingness to travel to various sites.
  • Willingness to work unsociable hours to conduct fieldwork.
Desirable skills and experience
  • Hold at least one Protected Species Survey Licence (e.g., bats, dormice, barn owls, GCN, etc.).
  • Experience producing technical reports, including EIA, Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRA), and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) Assessments.
  • Competencies with applying for and implementing licences.
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).
