Overview

The Blue Heron Company Limited operates a large hospitality and tourism business in Tobermory, Ontario. Offering 4 tour boats within Fathom Five National Marine Park on multiple departures daily, 36 motel rooms, 15 rental cottages, 3 retail stores and many other property holdings. This multi-faceted business is looking to hire a Manager with a depth of experience and knowledge in hospitality and/or tourism that will continue to lead and grow the company while maintaining the highest quality products and customer standards our guests have become accustomed to.

Responsibilities
  • Oversees day to day operations of The Blue Heron Company Limited to keep work organized and efficient.
  • Responsible for implementing new strategies for growth as defined by the ownership group.
  • Training new managers and supervisors.
  • Setting hiring goals and practices and reviewing throughout the hiring process.
  • Recognizing, motivating and coaching all team members in order to achieve operational success.
  • Responsible for inventory controls, forecasting, ordering and overseeing inventory counts.
  • Evaluating productivity and performance and implementing strategies for improvement.
  • Keeping detailed reports of business and employee performance.
  • Coordinating all departments.
  • Maintain the highest possible level of customer service through training and follow up along with resolving all customer complaints.
  • Review schedules and approve those that achieve operational excellence, promote customer service and control cost of labor.
  • Ensure cash control and security procedures are in place and maintained.
  • Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety act, local health and safety codes and company safety procedures.
  • Responsible for conducting performance reviews of all management and supervisory staff.
  • Ensure maintenance of equipment, facilities and grounds through the use of preventative maintenance plans based on corporate standards.
  • The Manager may take on the duties of other employees or departments to fill temporary gaps or assist the team.
  • Every aspect of the company’s day to day operations is the concern of the Manager and they must be familiar and competent in all aspects.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in management.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and oral
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast paced environment
  • Customer service skills that will exceed guest expectations
  • Must be able to work with no supervision and have strong initiative
  • Must be able to perform efficiently during high volume peak periods (June - September).
  • Must be flexible to work evenings, weekends and holidays.
