Job summary

A leading housing association in Northern Ireland is seeking a planning professional to join its Development & Growth committee. In this non-remunerated role, you will evaluate planning schemes and provide design optimization advice. Ideal candidates will have a Town Planner qualification, placemaking expertise, and experience with planning authorities. Commitment includes approximately six meetings per year.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a planning professional with placemaking expertise to join the Development & Growth committee and play an important role in influencing Choice’s new build and asset improvement project design and delivery, and achieving better outcomes for tenants, communities and partners.

Responsibilities

Committee member responsibilities include evaluating potential schemes against planning policy and regulations, identifying planning risks, optimising design and advising on potential planning issues and solutions.

Requirements
  • A Town Planner qualification (e.g. RTPI) with a track record securing consents for housing schemes and navigating planning policy, conditions and reserved matters.
  • Placemaking expertise: policy interpretation, design optimisation, and coordination with statutory partners.
  • Ideally, experience or understanding of the work of planning authorities.
