Overview

Design & Build Technical Manager – Retrofit & Cladding (Contract or Permanent)

We’re partnered with a specialist contractor delivering complex retrofit and façade remediation schemes. They are looking to appoint a Design & Build Technical Manager to take ownership of technical coordination across multiple live and upcoming projects. The client is open to both long-term contract or permanent employment for the right candidate.

The role will be primarily based in East London, with regular travel to Nottingham (every other week) for site and project meetings. All travel and accommodation costs will be fully covered.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll lead consultant management, material approvals, compliance, and buildability reviews — ensuring projects progress smoothly from pre-construction through to completion.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the full technical design process from planning through to handover.
• Coordinate design consultants, specialist subcontractors, and temporary works designers.
• Review drawings for buildability, compliance, sequencing, and cost efficiency.
• Oversee technical approvals: materials, warranty bodies, fire regulations, and structural interfaces.
• Liaise closely with site, commercial, and delivery teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
• Support value engineering and programme improvements.

Requirements

• Proven background in retrofit, cladding, façade remediation, or similar D&B projects.
• Experience in a contractor environment in a technical or design management role.
• Strong knowledge of Building Regulations, NHBC, and temporary works.
• Ability to resolve design issues, manage technical queries, and ensure compliance.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced contractor setting with a hands-on approach.

Location: East London (Hybrid – 3 days office / 2 days WFH)
