A leading facility management company in London is seeking a skilled Deputy Shift Leader. This role is key in supporting the Shift Leader to ensure operational continuity across critical sites. You will oversee maintenance tasks, supervise engineers, and promote effective communication across shift teams. Qualifications

  • HV switching experience and current HV training certificate.

Overview

Deputy Shift Leader – Location: London, E14 5HP. Hours of work: 43. Shift Pattern: Rotating mix of days, nights, and off days. Contract Type: Permanent.

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Deputy Shift Leader to support the Shift Leader and ensure operational continuity across critical sites. The Deputy Shift Leader assists the Shift Leader, covers periods of annual leave, and supports succession planning. The role ensures all M&E assets are monitored, maintained, and repaired to guarantee maximum operational effectiveness and reliability while supporting the Shift Leader in operational management and team leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Act as 2IC on shift, supporting the Shift Leader in organising and delivering work.
  • Monitor, maintain, and repair all M&E assets, including UPS, generators, and power distribution systems.
  • Supervise engineers and trades on shift, and oversee external contractors.
  • Organise jobs and ensure timely completion of reactive and planned maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure adherence to Health, Safety, and Quality Assurance (ISO 9001-2000) procedures.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance issues and help desk requests, minimising downtime and operational disruptions.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, preventative schedules, and compliance documentation.
  • Prepare Method Statements and Risk Assessments as required.
  • Promote effective communication and collaboration across shift teams to ensure smooth operations and successful handovers.
Qualifications
  • Qualified electrical or mechanical engineer to current standards.
  • Multi-skilled with strong Mechanical/Electrical knowledge, including UPS, generators, and power distribution.
  • HV switching experience and a current HV training certificate.
  • Strong leadership, management, and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and telephone).
  • Ability to work effectively in a critical environment and as part of a team.
  • Proactive, solutions-focused mindset with operational efficiency and compliance as priorities.
