Job Title: Deputy Children's Home Manager

Location: Burton/Swadlicote/Leicester

Position Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Salary: £35,000 -£50,000

Reports To: Registered Manager

Job Purpose

To support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day management of the children's home, ensuring high standards of care and support for children and young people with emotional and behavioral difficulties (EBD). The Deputy Manager will assist in overseeing the operational, financial, and administrative functions of the home, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and promoting a safe, nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Registered Manager in the daily operations of the children's home.
  • Ensure that the home meets the standards set by OFSTED and other regulatory bodies.
  • Implement and maintain policies and procedures in line with legislative and organizational requirements.
  • Supervise and support the care team, providing guidance, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Assist in the recruitment, induction, and training of new staff members.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and ensure effective communication within the team.
  • Develop, implement, and review individualized care plans for each child.
  • Ensure that the physical, emotional, and educational needs of each child are met.
  • Promote positive behavior and manage challenging behaviors in line with the home's policies.
  • Ensure that safeguarding policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.
  • Act as a designated safeguarding lead in the absence of the Registered Manager.
  • Report and address any safeguarding concerns promptly.
  • Assist in preparing for OFSTED inspections and other audits.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of care provided, implementing improvements where necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in managing the home's budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
  • Ensure that financial records are accurate and up to date.
  • Work collaboratively with external agencies, including social workers, schools, and healthcare providers.
  • Promote positive relationships with families and carers.
  • Stay up to date with best practices and developments in the field of children's residential care.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities.
Person Specification
  • Qualifications: NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (Children and Young People) or equivalent. Willingness to work towards a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care if not already obtained.
  • Experience: Significant experience working in a children's residential setting, preferably with children with EBD. Experience in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Skills and Abilities: Strong leadership and team management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage challenging behaviors and promote positive outcomes. Strong organizational and administrative skills. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of the regulatory framework for children's homes. Knowledge of child development, attachment, and trauma-informed care.
  • Values and Attitudes: Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Empathy, patience, and resilience. Commitment to continuous professional development.
Additional Requirements
  • Enhanced DBS check.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and on-call as required.
  • Full UK driving license.
