Craigentinny Primary School

Salary: £68,892
Hours: 35 per week

We are looking for an enthusiastic, positive and highly skilled Acting Depute Head Teacher to join our team at Craigentinny Primary School.

About the school

The school was built in the 1930s and is a non-denominational primary school which serves the Restalrig and Craigentinny area of North-East Edinburgh. We are proud to be part of the Leith Learning Community, and we work together with the associated primaries and Leith Academy to deliver the best learning experiences for our young people. The current school roll is 300 children including 16 young people who learn in our Enhanced Support Base classes. We have 12 mainstream classes and 2 ESB classes.

Within our Leadership Team, our Head teacher is supported by one Depute Head Teacher and two Principal Teachers (one PT in Mainstream and one PT in Enhanced Support Base).

Responsibilities

As well as contributing to the positive, inclusive and caring ethos of the school, the initial remit for the successful new Acting Depute Head Teacher will be focused on leading a level, which will be decided based on candidate experience. This will include leading strategic improvement across the level, monitoring pupil achievement, and supporting pastoral care. In addition, the successful candidate will work as part of our Senior Leadership Team on other whole school initiatives and have responsibilities for areas of our School Improvement Plan. We are looking for someone with an excellent knowledge of pedagogy, self-evaluation and leading strategic change.

The role of a Depute Head Teacher is to assist and, where necessary, to deputise for the Head Teacher as required. The role of the Head Teacher is, within the resources available, to conduct the affairs of the school to the benefit of the pupils and the community it serves, through pursuing objectives and implementing policies set by the City of Edinburgh Council under the overall direction of the Head of Education.

Policies and checks

Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
