Qualifications

Job description
Data Centre Technician

Location: Bath, UK

Salary: 47,500 - 50,000 per annum

Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Data Centre Technician to join our team, delivering high-quality service support within a critical data centre environment in Bath. You will be responsible for maintaining and supporting all mechanical and electrical (M&E) systems, carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive tasks, and small installations, while ensuring full compliance with safety and operational procedures.

This is a hands‑on, client‑facing role ideal for a technician with experience in critical environments who thrives on technical responsibility and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high standards of M&E maintenance, including planned and reactive tasks, in line with client SLAs and performance targets.
  • Maintain accurate work logs and documentation using the Mainstream SI‑7 CMMS system.
  • Act as an Authorised Person (AP) within 6 months of appointment, carrying out isolations and reinstatement of electrical, gas, fire alarm, and sprinkler systems.
  • Issue and manage permits to work, ensuring compliance with all safety and security policies.
  • Support and supervise subcontractors on‑site to ensure quality and compliance with client standards.
  • Participate in the Critical Services Training Programme to maintain and develop technical competence.
  • Provide cover for team members during absence and ensure smooth operational handovers.
  • Conduct condition assessments, track and complete critical PPM activities, and elevate issues as required.
  • Support small installation works, repairs, and general building maintenance tasks when needed.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and management teams, producing incident reports and documentation as necessary.
About You
  • Formally trained in a technical discipline, holding a recognised apprenticeship or equivalent qualification.
  • City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in BS7671 (18th Edition Wiring Regulations).
  • Proven experience in critical maintenance environments (data centres, hospitals, or similar).
  • Strong technical knowledge of UPS systems, BMS operation, standby generators, and electrical testing.
  • Experience with mechanical and electrical fault‑finding and PPM procedures.
  • Understanding of Permit to Work systems, health and safety protocols, and compliance documentation.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills with a proactive and flexible approach.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Basic IT literacy with the ability to use database and monitoring systems (training provided).
  • HV or AP certification (desirable) with the ability to create switching plans.
Accountabilities
  • Reports directly to the Contract Manager and Site Supervisor.
  • Responsible for maintaining appropriate stocks of consumables and ensuring secure storage.
  • No direct reports or budgetary responsibility.

  • City & Guilds 236 Parts 1 & 2 (or later)
  • IOSH Working / Managing Safely
  • BMS, fire and environmental control, and building control systems training
  • L8 Water Hygiene Awareness
