Job description
Overview

Supporting your overall wellbeing with counselling, mental health support, life management, medical guidance, and helpful resources. Olivia is our friendly virtual assistant, available to support you navigate through the application process 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Whether it's late at night or over the weekend, she's on hand to answer your questions, guide you through the application process, or help you find what you need. While Olivia can't make hiring decisions (those are always made by real human recruiters), Olivia's here to ensure your recruitment journey stays smooth and accessible — anytime you need.

Olivia is our friendly virtual assistant designed to help streamline parts of the recruitment experience. Olivia can answer common questions, guide candidates through application steps, arrange interviews and provide timely updates, all to help make the application process smoother and easier to navigate.

Before we can employ you, we are required to verify your eligibility to work in the UK & Ireland. Acceptable documents to evidence your right to work can be found here. You’ll need to provide original documents such as a valid passport or a valid UK/Ireland visa (with a college letter listing term dates, where applicable). Only original documents will be accepted.

Interview and Hiring Process

The interview is an absolutely vital part of our hiring process. Without it, we wouldn’t get a proper picture of what kind of person you are, and whether you'd be a great fit at McDonald's. The interview will normally involve a set of questions around values and attitudes and will allow the interviewee to really show us why they're the right person for the job. For instance, we might ask for an example of times you've worked as part of a team and how you made a difference to that team. In short, we look for people who have the right attitudes and behaviours to deliver a great customer and colleague experience; we hire for qualities and potential, rather than qualifications.

Prospects and Culture

Our employees tend to stick around. Partly because it's a fun, sociable and flexible place to work, but also because there are opportunities to progress into roles with more responsibility. In fact, 9 out of 10 of our restaurant managers, and 1 in 5 of our franchisees, started out as crew members behind the counter or in the kitchens. We've also been recognised as a leading employer over the years, offering award-winning learning, nationally-recognised qualifications, comprehensive benefits and flexible working arrangements, as well as a well-proven career path. You'll be working in a fast moving, high energy environment and we're looking for a genuine smile plus an ability to connect with customers and make them feel valued.

Requirements and Qualities

Friendly, welcoming, courteous and helpful behaviour will come naturally to you and you'll work well as part of a team. Effective communication skills such as attentive listening, face-to-face verbal communication and eye contact are a must. The ability to maintain high energy levels whilst working both efficiently and productively is essential. You should be a good customer experience leader, have a positive disposition, be willing to get involved, and be part of a good team. Our roles emphasize meeting people, supporting each other, and contributing to a welcoming work environment.

Company Values and Benefits

McDonald's backbone is a commitment to our core values: Serve, Inclusion, Integrity, Community and Family. We live by our values every day and are committed to fostering a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace, providing quality jobs, and making opportunity open to all.

Benefits package includes: Holiday pay, Service Awards, Meal allowance, Employee discounts from top high street and online brands and much more. Premium Shift pay; If you work overnights, between the hours of midnight and 5am, you'll earn extra pay. Every team member, including hourly-paid workers, earns above the national minimum wage. We also offer a range of benefits including holiday and sick pay, and employee discounts that offer savings at over 1,600 retailers.

Interview Availability and Sustainability

If you are unable to make any of the interview slots offered to you in the recruitment process, you can get back in touch with Olivia and she will help you rearrange to find a date suitable for you.

At McDonald's, we are working hard to take the necessary steps towards a more sustainable business and future. In 2021, we launched our first net-zero restaurant. Watch this video to find out more about our new, ground-breaking store!

Compensation and Scheduling

This can vary depending on whether you work in a franchised or company owned restaurant. Typically, it can be every 2 or 4 weeks for hourly paid employees, and monthly for employees on a dedicated salary. Our restaurant hours range from location to location, but over half of our restaurants are open 24 hours a day. We schedule most shifts to suit you, while also considering working time legislation and business needs. You don't have to worry about what to wear to work; we will supply you with a uniform.

Career Growth

Definitely. We highly value talent and always aim to encourage employees to remain within our business. To put it into perspective, half of our Executive Team started in restaurants. There are no limits to how far or fast you can progress.

Age Requirements

How old you need to be to work at McDonald's is determined by local regulations and position requirements.
