Job Role: CTO

Location: Glasgow

Contract: Full time, Permanent

Package: up to 70k + great benefits and share options through tenure

Our Client is recruiting for a full-time Chief Technology Officer to join their rapidly expanding team in Glasgow's West End.

Our client is developing a robotic lawn mower for broad terrains and is one of Scotland's fastest growing robotics start‑ups. The created product, which is powered by patent‑pending mapping and positioning technology, can cover far bigger areas than is now feasible, while still ensuring the greatest degree of safety and cutting quality. It also requires minimum installation. The majority of the company's clientele are businesses, such as golf clubs and local authorities. They've won the majority of Scotland's major start‑up contests and garnered about £3 million in capital from private investors and governmental sources.

To stimulate creativity and excellence, this is a collaborative environment where criticism and new ideas are openly accepted. Fast‑paced development allows for imaginative issue solution to ensure that business objectives are reached.

The role:

The successful candidate will be in charge of technical development in a rapidly growing robotics start‑up. The main duties include the following:

  • Directing the technical vision, strategy and execution to successfully build, scale and maintain all technological solutions up to par with industry leading practices
  • Be responsible for the delivery of all technology milestones
  • Hire the best talent possible and motivate the engineering heads and engineers across the organisation
  • Creation of IP assets
  • Document and communicate the progress of the Engineering Team to the Board and rest of the management team

The CTO will be part of the management and report directly to the CEO. Collaboration across all departments is required, ie. with Operations, Commercial and Marketing/Sales.

Essential Qualifications/Knowledge
  • BSc/BEng/BA in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field
  • Experience with managing a hiring pipeline and recruitment processes for engineering roles
  • Experience with strategy development and planning
  • Proven experience as a CTO or similar technical leadership role
  • Scaling of a prototype into a product that can be mass manufactured
  • Knowledge of technological trends and tools
  • Excellent communication skills, leadership and organizational abilities
  • High level understanding of robotics software, electronics, mechanical engineering and how to integrate them
  • Robotic product design and manufacturing at scale across all hardware disciplines
