Job description

Job Title: Cover Supervisor – English Specialist
Location: Coventry
Contract Type: Full-time / Part-time / Flexible (Term‑Time Only)
Salary: £110 - £135.50 per day (Dependent on experience and qualifications)

Are you passionate about education and confident in managing a classroom? Do you have a strong background in English Literature/Language, and want to make a difference in Secondary schools across Coventry?

Link3 Recruitment is seeking reliable, enthusiastic Cover Supervisors with a qualification/experience in English Literature/Language to support a number of secondary schools across the Coventry area.

We are particularly interested in individuals who have a strong academic background in English Literature/Language, and a genuine passion for the subject. The ideal candidate will be confident in delivering pre-set English lessons, inspiring students through their deep knowledge of literary texts, themes, and historical contexts. A true enthusiast for English, you will foster a love for reading, critical thinking, and expressive writing in the classroom. Your ability to engage students with rich literary content and encourage thoughtful discussion will play a key role in maintaining high standards of learning and behaviour during teacher absences.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking classroom experience—especially those considering a future in teaching or wishing to support instruction without taking on full planning and preparation responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise lessons across the curriculum in the absence of the regular class teacher, demonstrating strong classroom management and the ability to keep students engaged.
  • Maintain a strong classroom presence to support a focused and respectful learning environment.
  • Deliver pre-set English lessons while upholding high standards of behaviour and encouraging active participation.
  • Support students with tasks and contribute to a positive, inclusive atmosphere.
  • Provide clear and constructive feedback to teaching staff on lesson outcomes and student engagement.
  • Promote literacy and a love for English through enthusiastic lesson delivery and academic support.
Requirements
  • A strong academic background in English (Degree or equivalent).
  • Have some understanding across all key stages up to GCSE's and A'Levels.
  • Previous experience working with young people (e.g., in education, youth work, or tutoring).
  • Confident classroom presence and the ability to manage behaviour effectively.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and committed to supporting students’ learning.
  • All applicants must hold a valid Right to Work in the UK, which will be verified as part of our safeguarding and compliance process.
  • DBS: All applicants must undergo an Enhanced DBS Check (Child Workforce) prior to starting work, unless already registered on the Update Service. The cost of a new DBS will be covered by the applicant.
  • For roles below Cover Supervisor level, a minimum of GCSE qualifications (or equivalent) is required, and evidence of these qualifications must be provided.
We Offer
  • Competitive daily rates and flexible working options.
  • Opportunities for professional development and teacher training pathways.
  • A supportive and welcoming school/trust network across Coventry.
  • Dedicated consultant and team.
  • Applicants will be subject to pre-employment checks and should hold current DBS check registered to the update service.
