Job description

Overview

The transfer of patients from all wards and departments, in beds, wheelchairs or stretchers or via internal ambulance (NGH only), ensuring the patient is secure to travel. Move patients with assistance and instruction from professional staff. This includes the occasional movement of patients with valuables under the supervision of the nursing staff. Transfer deceased patients to Mortuary, ensuring all equipment is clean after use. Removal of waste from all departments and wards. Postal duties. Assist with viewing out of hours when requested by Duty Matron. Driving duties plus check and clean vehicles as instructed. Laundry collection/delivery. Sharpmart deliveries/collection. Act under instruction from medical/nursing staff in the event of a cardiac arrest or other emergencies (e.g., Fire Alert).

Responsibilities

• Transfer patients between wards and departments by appropriate means (beds, wheelchairs, or stretchers) and ensure safety for travel.
• Move patients with assistance and instruction from professional staff; supervise movements of patients with valuables as directed by nursing staff.
• Transfer deceased patients to Mortuary and ensure equipment is cleaned after use.
• Remove waste from all departments and wards.
• Carry out postal duties as required.
• Assist with viewing out of hours when requested by the Duty Matron.
• Carry out driving duties and check/clean vehicles as instructed.
• Collect and deliver laundry; handle Sharpmart deliveries/collection.
• Act under instruction from medical/nursing staff in emergencies (e.g., cardiac arrest, Fire Alert).
