Overview

The Contracts Manager will lead and direct teams to support and drive the Contracting strategy for the North East region. The role is based at our Birtley office and requires you to be within reasonable travel distance.

Responsibilities
  • Lead delivery of the area operations strategy and drive operational efficiency through business optimisation principles.
  • Work with the Operations Manager and QS team to review contract performance, forecast spend and minimise risk.
  • Develop and maintain key customer and supply chain relationships via regular communication and visits.
  • Reduce delays and cost to serve customers through accurate weekly, monthly and strategic forecasts.
  • Secure long‑term work bank by building relationships with existing and new clients, engaging commercial teams and supporting key tenders.
  • Ensure all operational activities comply with safety and business policies and are delivered within the required budget.
  • Actively resolve contract disputes to maximise sustainable profit and cash flow.
  • Co‑coach, coach and develop all direct reports providing mentoring as necessary.
Candidate Profile
  • Experienced in managing construction work within the contracting market including surfacing and asphalt.
  • Proven success managing teams effectively for performance and growth with an excellent track record of client interface.
  • Strong commercial knowledge, understanding of estimating and costing systems.
  • Excellent communication skills engaging at all levels with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to build vision for success and work to tight deadlines.
  • NEBOSH or IOSH certified.
  • Higher Education qualification (HND/HNC Level or Degree) advantageous.
  • IT literate (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint).
