Overview
Senior Scientist opportunity at our Waterside site in Portishead, Bristol. You will work independently under strategic guidance with understanding and application of scientific and technical standards in a predominantly lab-based in vitro biology environment.
Responsibilities
- Independently run a wide range of immunological assays using techniques such as flow cytometry, IncuCyte, MACS sorting, culture and differentiation of primary cells and cell lines, ELISA, Luminex, TR-FRET, and ex-vivo tissue processing.
- Implement available assays and develop new immunological assays to support in vitro biology capabilities in immuno-oncology, autoimmune disease and inflammation (including neuroinflammation), infection or microbiome programs.
- Interrogate data to generate reports where conclusions and future directions are scientifically sound; provide technical and scientific leadership to drive project progression.
- Guide, coach and mentor junior scientific staff, training on specific techniques and sharing technical knowledge as needed.
- Project lead or deputy project lead for IVB studies, or execute studies with minimal supervision from the project lead.
- Leverage BD/CS and operational teams to introduce novel work for the site, including scoping calls with clients and revising scientific project proposals.
Qualifications
- MSc in Immunology with industry experience or PhD in Immunology desirable.
- Expertise in B and T cell immunology.
- Demonstrable lab-based experience in immuno-oncology, autoimmune disease and inflammation (including neuroinflammation).
- Awareness of Health and Safety standards within the labs and ability to work safely in this environment.
- Excellent communication skills, able to relay scientific information accurately.
- Strong passion for drug discovery, able to stay abreast of industry updates and share with peers.
- Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills; proficient in IT (Microsoft, Outlook, Teams).
- Clear understanding of the drug discovery process.
- Nice to have: previous industry lab experience (pharma/CRO/biotech); project leadership experience; experience working in a multidisciplinary unit on integrated drug discovery projects; demonstrable skills in executing biological assays in a pharma/biotech/CRO environment.
