Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our healthcare team at HMP Belmarsh, a category A Prison located in South East London. The prison houses around 675 patients with a variety of needs, including highly complex and acute mental health. Within this role you will be supporting a number of high profile patients across the general population and the 33‑bed inpatient ward. You will be joining our experienced integrated mental health team including another Psychiatrist who already works on site.

Hours

3.5 days a week / 28 hours

To be worked between Monday to Friday 9am‑5pm, on a job share.

Salary

You’ll receive an annual salary up to £196,840 per annum FTE, depending on experience.

How will we support you?
  • You will be part of a team of 20+ experienced and supportive Consultant psychiatrists.
  • You will be able to attend monthly Consultant meetings and 1:1 clinical supervision.
  • Bespoke induction, including our Introducing Health in Justice training course.

Main Duties of the Job

As a Consultant Psychiatrist, your responsibilities will vary. You will:

  • Provide excellent clinical care, assessment and treatment to patients on the case load onsite.
  • Actively participate in the strategic direction of the mental health service, lead senior mental health clinicians on service developments and provide clinical supervision.
  • Work within the multi‑disciplinary team to review referrals, determine appropriate treatment plans, conduct risk assessments, and engage in multi‑professional complex case reviews.

Qualifications Required
  • Registered professional with current GMC registration.
  • Specialist Registration in either General Adult or Forensic Psychiatry.
  • Approved under section 12(2) of the MHS 1983.
  • Understanding of the complexities of multi‑disciplinary and multi‑agency working.
  • Up‑to‑date knowledge in adult psychiatry and PD.
  • Awareness of current issues in mental health service provision, policy and legislation.
  • Candidates are required to have a legal right to work in the UK. Due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.
