Job description
Consultant Physician – Respiratory Medicine

An opportunity has arisen for a Consultant with a special interest in Respiratory Medicine to take on a full-time leadership role.

This post is based in a busy respiratory department at a hospital located just off the south coast of England, known for its beaches and seafront promenades. The role offers an excellent quality of life, with frequent, fast, and efficient connections to the mainland via catamaran, hovercraft, or car ferry.

The duties of the post include:

  1. Maintaining the highest clinical standards in patient management
  2. Sharing responsibility with colleagues for the day-to-day management of Respiratory and General Medicine services
  3. Teaching and training junior staff
  4. Participating in departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit
  5. Ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME)

Responsibilities include inpatient reviews, outpatient clinics, bronchoscopy sessions, and MDT meetings.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register for General Internal Medicine and Respiratory Medicine or within six months of obtaining their CCT by the interview date
  • For overseas candidates, completion of the necessary language tests (IELTS / OET / NARIC) before applying is required, satisfying UKVI language test requirements

Additional information:

  • The appointee will participate in the Consultant Physician on-call rota on a 1:11 basis
  • The department includes full-time and part-time consultants, two specialty doctors, ten ST3, ten ST1, four Foundation Year 2, and twelve Foundation Year 1 doctors
