Consultant Oncologist – UHB: Walsall

University Hospitals Birmingham Foundation Trust (UHB) is recruiting a Consultant Oncologist to join our dynamic team. The post holder will work across Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust via a Service Level Agreement, delivering colorectal care, service development, independent ward rounds and AOS care. They will also deliver one day a week at QEH, delivering breast oncology clinics.

The post holder will be clinically responsible and employed by UHB, although the majority of the job plan will be at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.

UHB’s Oncology service delivers an extensive range of systemic anti‑cancer treatments and radiotherapy treatments. Consultant‑led clinics are delivered face‑to‑face and virtually, from dedicated Oncology/Haematology units at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB), Birmingham Heartlands Hospital (BHH), Good Hope Hospital (GHH) and Solihull Hospital (SHH). Bespoke Day Unit facilities support the delivery of chemotherapy, immunotherapy and supportive treatments from each hospital site. Inpatient Oncology care is delivered at all of UHB’s sites, supported by the Acute Oncology Team (AOS) and Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP) service. QEHB has two dedicated Oncology wards for elective inpatient treatment and emergency admissions. There is also an inpatient and day case Young Persons Unit (YPU).

Main duties of the job

The new consultant will join a supportive team of Consultant Oncologists, working across our four hospital sites (QEHB, BHH, GHH and SHH). There are regular team meetings, including monthly consultant meetings, governance meetings and sub‑specialty MDTs. There is also an opportunity to take on additional lead roles within the department, specialising in areas such as chemotherapy lead, M&M lead, governance lead and education leads.
