Job description

A new post has been created within the Medicine for Older People team at Wexham Park following a service reconfiguration. The successful candidate will work across the rehabilitation unit, discharge unit, and the acute frailty service, providing high-quality care to our patients.

We actively encourage special interests and offer opportunities for professional development. If dual‑accredited, the post holder will also participate in the General Internal Medicine (GIM) on‑call rota. Flexible working requests for less than 10 PAs will be considered.

We welcome applications from doctors with significant experience (12+ years) who do not currently hold CCT. Such candidates may be appointed as Specialist Grade on the relevant pay scale and supported to progress to Consultant level via the CESR (portfolio pathway).

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to work alongside our existing consultants to further develop services for older people and bring their own special interests to enhance our current offerings. This role is ideal for those seeking to join an organisation that is leading the way in delivering truly integrated care.

For dual‑accredited candidates, the General Medicine on‑call rota is approximately 1:9 weekends, with a less frequent midweek commitment.

  • Weekdays (08:00–17:00): Acute admissions are covered by Acute Medicine consultants.
  • Out of hours (nights and weekends): The on‑call consultant physician covers both acute admissions and the wider General Medicine service.

On‑call duties attract a 1 PA supplement and one day TOIL for weekend work.

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust is committed to being an inclusive and disability‑confident employer and has been awarded the Gold for the Armed Forces Employment Recognition Scheme. We provide first‑class development opportunities for all staff and have a wide range of professional, management and leadership, and clinical skills training available.

Here at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, we know how important it is to have a healthy work‑life balance; this benefits not only individuals but the patients we care for too.

We encourage applications from people who wish to work on a flexible basis, recognising that flexibility may mean a range of different working patterns and hours; we do our utmost to work with our staff to meet their needs and the needs of our service and its users.

Benefits
  • Deliver high‑quality clinical care in Acute/General and Older People’s Medicine.
  • Work collaboratively within multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Liaise with Social Services, GPs, and voluntary organisations.
  • Provide specialist advice to colleagues and support staff.
  • Contribute to teaching, training, and supervision of junior doctors and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in audits, quality improvement, and service development.
  • Engage in clinical governance and morbidity & mortality meetings.
  • Support divisional leadership with service planning and development.
  • Comply with Trust policies and complete mandatory training, appraisal, and revalidation.
