Job description
Overview

The post is a new Consultant role in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will provide specialist obstetric care, support the multidisciplinary team, and enhance maternal safety within the unit.

Responsibilities
  • Clinical leadership and administrative responsibility for the Obstetric and Gynaecology Department.
  • Develop standards, procedures and robust systems to ensure safe, high quality and efficient patient care from entry to discharge.
  • Supervise junior medical staff and provide one‑to‑one learning opportunities.
  • Lead Risk Management activities to ensure safe and quality care of women and families.
  • Actively participate in educational programmes for junior staff, including formal teaching and clinical audits.
  • Teach and train staff across other medical disciplines, nursing and support staff as appropriate.
  • Maintain an up‑to‑date job and personal development plan.
  • Register and participate in the RCOG CPD scheme.
  • Issue advice to GPs on suitability of patients for admission.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Lead to develop care pathways, clinical guidelines and promote close links with primary care.
  • Ensure appropriate information is available to staff to benchmark clinical performance.
  • Provide a role model of professional leadership and uphold Trust values.
  • Ensure junior doctors training confirms to College requirements and participate in appraisal of medical staff.
Qualifications
  • Completed CCT or equivalent (Pathway Portfolio) and must be on the Specialist Register.
  • Strong obstetric focus with experience and interest in fetal medicine and high‑risk obstetrics.
  • Complementary interest in maternal medicine is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and commitment to multidisciplinary teamwork.
  • Excellent communication, teaching and training skills.
