A regional health authority in Cwmbran is seeking a committed Consultant in Respiratory Medicine to lead specialized services, including lung cancer and palliative care. The ideal candidate will support the newly opened Respiratory High Care Unit and engage in clinical governance activities. Essential qualifications include full registration in the UK and GMC Specialist Register membership. A commitment to teaching and research is also important for this crucial role within a dynamic team.

This is an exciting time to be joining us as we have opened our brand-new Respiratory High Care Unit at the Grange University Hospital as part of reconfiguring services in both primary and secondary care.
The Respiratory Department currently has 14 WTE consultants, 7 specialist registrars and a team of core medical trainees, Clinical Fellows (Pleural, Sleep, NIV and High Care), a Respiratory Consultant Nurse, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Physician Associates. Services include EBUS, Thoracoscopy and Bronchoscopy, Respiratory Ambulatory Care and an ambulatory Pleural service. The Lung Cancer MDT is one of the largest in the UK and operates as a single cancer pathway. We also run a bespoke Sleep laboratory at Neville Hall Hospital, providing a tertiary service for Wales.
Lead subspecialty respiratory medicine for a population of over 600,000, developing existing specialist services—including lung cancer, pleural medicine, asthma, NIV, ILD, and sleep services—and building closer links with palliative care for end‑of‑life and anticipatory care planning. Support the opening of the Respiratory High Care Unit and drive service reconfiguration. Conduct clinical governance and quality improvement activities within the department.
