Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine

The trust is seeking a highly motivated and capable individual for a full-time/10 PA post based at Walkergate Park, a level 1 neurorehabilitation center in the north of England. Part time applicants are welcome to apply. The post holder will work primarily in the outpatient team across neuro-rehabilitation services. This post will include non-resident on-call. Candidates with a special interest are welcome to apply, and this can be negotiated alongside candidate capability and service needs.

The area is predominantly rural and contains the Lake District National Park which is considered one of England's finest areas of natural beauty.

Main duties of the job

The role has a focus on general rehabilitation and toxin delivery work. Clinics usually have 3 hours of clinical work with 1 hour of admin, though this can change to accommodate needs for the candidate and service.

There is also in-reach work for inpatients in the neurobehavioral and neurorehabilitation wards, as well as outreach clinics/home visits.

We are the regional center for neurorehabilitation and the post holder will be part of the Single Point of Access team, assessing referrals for inpatient admission.

Toxin clinics are usually run are new assessment spasticity MDT clinics (1-3/week) and review clinics through a variety of medial and non-medical injectors. The post holder will be expected to support the toxin service, particularly in spasticity management, and so a candidate with expertise in both ultrasound guided and non-ultrasound guided injections would be ideally suited for the role.

You will have your own office space and will be supported by a medical assistant and/or medical secretary. We are looking for applicants based anywhere in the UK to explore exciting new opportunities in remote and digital working.

This is a substantive and full-time post however we would be happy to consider applicants available on a part time or fixed term basis.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
  • MBBS (or equivalent)
  • Included on GMC Specialist Register via CCT or CESR or eligible for inclusion, or a trainee within six months of CCT
  • MRCP or equivalent (MRCGP or MRCS)
  • As part of their training, at least 18-24 months SpR/ST training in neurorehabilitation or ability to demonstrate the relevant competencies through application
  • Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant rehabilitation medicine field- e.g MD or PhD
  • Has undergone training in educational supervision
  • Has undergone training in appraisal
  • Working/training in a UK NHS level 1 neurorehabilitation centre
Knowledge
  • Up to date knowledge in the field of Rehabilitation Medicine
  • Awareness of current issues and controversies in service provision and legislation
  • An area of special interest relevant to the post as demonstrated by publications or presentations to learned societies
Experience
  • Experience of multidisciplinary team working
  • Wide clinical experience in general rehabilitation in different clinical settings
  • Experience of Clinical Audit
  • Experience of spasticity management is essential for this role. Candidate should be able to manage clinics independently and supervise trainees/AHPs. Also having skills with, ultrasound guided injections, botulinum toxin injections for dystonia and hypersalivation
  • Experience of working with MDTs in managing a wide variety of complex neuro-disability cases and patients is essential
  • Experience in multiagency work especially with service user, carer and voluntary agencies
  • Experience in service management or development
Skills
  • High level of clinical skills especially with toxin delivery
