An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our dynamic, innovative, and friendly multi‑disciplinary team within the Diabetes and Endocrinology service. The department has a strong clinical reputation across the spectrum of complex diabetes, endocrinology and general medicine, and is committed to excellence in education and training.

We are seeking enthusiastic candidates to apply for this post, which will be based at Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend. You will join an experienced and supportive team of consultant diabetologists and endocrinologists, working alongside a wider multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering high‑quality patient care.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide a consultant‑led Diabetes and Endocrinology service at Princess of Wales Hospital.
  • Contribute to high‑demand inpatient and outpatient diabetes and endocrine speciality activities alongside colleagues in the department.
  • Participate in the acute general medical on‑call rota and provide senior decision making.
  • Contribute to departmental business planning and service development in line with Health Board strategies.
  • Undertake teaching, training and supervision of junior medical staff and multidisciplinary team members.
  • Engage in clinical governance, audit, CPD and GMC revalidation processes.
  • Promote patient safety, quality improvement and adherence to NICE and national clinical standards.
  • Participate in recruitment, workforce planning and compliance with Health Board policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards in all aspects of clinical practice.

Knowledge, personal skills and abilities
  • Good organisational and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Proven ability to work under pressure.

  • Experience of and participation in clinical audit.
  • Proven clinical ability to a high standard.
  • Experience of developing and participating in teaching programmes for trainees and medical students.
  • Understanding of budget management and leadership skills.
  • Ability to produce and implement guidelines / protocols based on evidence‑based practice.
  • Publication(s) in professional journals.
  • Evidence of papers presented at national/international meetings.
  • Subspecialisation and special interests within Diabetes and Endocrinology.
Education, Qualifications and training
  • Full GMC registration and licence to practise in the UK.
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on the Register or within 6 months of receipt of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Diabetes and Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine (GIM) or entry to the GMC Specialist Register via the Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).
  • Possession of MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualification.
  • An appropriate higher degree (e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent).
  • SCE in Diabetes and Endocrinology.
Experience
  • Extensive, current experience and training in Diabetes and Endocrinology.
  • Working knowledge and experience of the NHS.
  • Previous experience as a locum or substantive consultant.
Personality requirements to include attitudes and personal disposition
  • Able to work in a multidisciplinary team and delegate effectively.
  • Demonstrate drive, achievement and innovation.
Circumstances – e.g. Mobility / availability
  • Able to travel to undertake duties of the post, flexible and responsive to staff and service priorities.
