Overview
The Consultant Biomedical Scientist will lead national cervical screening service across the STP region, providing specialist cytology, clinical advice, training and pathway management. Reporting to the Cytology Clinical Lead.
Responsibilities
- Report and refer abnormal cervical screening samples and manage review of cases for regional colposcopy MDT meetings and invasive cases for audit.
- Lead and ensure inter‑organisational co‑operation, communication and processes to maintain quality across the STP region within East of England.
- Manage the pathway programme: communicate with NHS England & NHS Improvement Screening & Imms Team, SQAS Team, Cancer Registry, regional STP NHS Trusts, GP surgeries, community clinics, iCaSH sexual health clinics, HM military and HM Prison institutions.
- Ensure professional, well managed and coordinated arrangements meet national requirements.
- Provide specialist training to departmental staff and service users inside and outside the Trust.
Qualifications
- IBMS/RCPath Advanced Specialist Diploma in Cervical Cytology.
- NHSCSP Certificate of Cervical Cytology.
- Breaking Bad News Training (Desirable).
Experience
- Highly developed specialist knowledge of cytology practice.
- Proficient in quality and clinical audit, administration and development of cytology services.
Skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of NHS Cervical Screening Programme principles and practice.
- Forward thinking, aware of current issues and future trends.
- Excellent verbal, written and presentational skills.
- Teaching experience (Desirable).
- Record of publications (Desirable).
