Overview

Department/Division: Risk and Compliance

Duration: Permanent

Location: London or Glasgow (Fully Remote also considered)

Reports to: Senior Conflicts Officer Team Leader

Direct Reports: None

Budget Responsibilities: No

The Risk and Compliance (R&C) function is dedicated to ensuring that legal and professional practice across Dentons is conducted in a professional, compliant and risk‑based manner, balancing ethical obligations with business needs. R&C comprises two dedicated teams – Conflicts and Anti‑Money Laundering – and is staffed with over 40 compliance professionals based in London, Warsaw, Dubai, Doha, Glasgow and remotely in the UK.

Role

Conflicts Analyst – responsible for ensuring Dentons complies with applicable legislative requirements while managing commercial and business conflict risks in line with Dentons global strategy and conflicts policies. The role involves maintaining effective compliance controls and procedures to avoid conflicts of interest and protect confidential information.

Responsibilities
  • Review and clear medium‑complexity conflict checks, managing legal and commercial issues across the Dentons network and considering potential business conflicts in line with global strategies.
  • Own the entire conflict‑checking process, from initial review through to matter‑record creation.
  • Provide clear and concise escalations to Team Leaders and the Senior Conflicts Manager as required.
  • Collaborate with the Client Terms Team to analyze engagement terms and assess the impact of bespoke conflict terms from a commercial and strategic perspective.
  • Identify sanctions‑related issues and raise them to the Financial Crime Team.
  • Adhere to Dentons internal compliance policies and procedures.
  • Use the firm’s global conflicts and new‑matter‑opening system and other internal/external systems to review and analyze data.
  • Lead discussions with lawyers and partners to ascertain the presence of any legal, commercial or confidential information conflicts and suggest possible resolutions; deal with highly complex transactions where stakeholders may have differing views.
  • Ensure internal conflict flags are up‑to‑date and relevant.
  • Help ensure daily workflow is progressed in a timely manner and meets SLA.
  • Handle ongoing management of matters.
  • Assist with lower‑complexity, higher‑volume workflow when necessary.
  • Assist with department projects and initiatives.
  • Help with other duties as assigned to fully meet the position’s requirements.
  • Support Team Leaders, Managers and Global Heads as required.
Qualifications
Technical skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in law or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Relevant experience in conflicts and confidential information, preferably in an international law firm (other professional/financial services firms considered).
  • Knowledge of Elite/3E, Intapp Open or similar systems.
  • Familiarity with the SRA Standards and Regulation, Law Society of Scotland Rules, The Law Society of Ireland Code of Conduct and the Dubai International Finance Centre (DIFC) requirements; able to provide guidance on these regulations.
  • Ability to recognise when rules of other jurisdictions apply (e.g., US ABA conflict rules).
  • Analytical skills to assess medium‑to‑high‑difficulty legal issues and produce accurate, reasoned opinions.
  • Knowledge of Data Protection Act 1998 and equivalents, EU Market Abuse Directive 2003/6/EC, Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (parts relevant to law firms), Money‑Laundering Regulations 2017.
