About The Role & Team

The Compliance Officer will support the organisation in adhering to all relevant laws, regulations and internal policies & procedures. The role will be vital in maintaining the integrity, transparency and accountability of the organisation. The officer will implement compliance improvement plans and provide training to the team and conduct regular internal reviews & give assurance to the leadership team. They will stay updated on changes in relevant laws and regulations and develop and implement internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance.

Key Responsibilities
Regulatory
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including economic and consumer standards, and grant funding conditions. Stay updated on any changes in laws and regulations and advise the organisation accordingly.
Policy Development
  • Develop policies and procedures to ensure effective compliance controls are in place and support with the implementation of those policies across the organisation. Regularly review and update these policies as necessary. Work closely with the Group Company Secretary to ensure that appropriate group policies are adopted within Square Roots.
Risk Reporting
  • Maintain the Company risk register. Responsible for collecting, analysing, and reporting key risk data to support effective governance and decision-making.
  • Developing and maintaining risk dashboards, key risk indicators (KRIs) and assurance reports for senior management and the Board.
  • Ensuring the accuracy and integrity of risk information and contributing to continuous improvement of the organisations risk reporting framework, processes, and controls.
Assurance and Audit
  • Conduct compliance self‑assessments and lead on implementing a compliance improvement plan. Provide timely information to internal and external auditors when required.
Training
  • Provide training to staff on compliance issues. Promote a culture of compliance and ethical behaviour within the organisation.
Reporting
  • Prepare and present compliance reports to senior management & Board. Ensure timely and accurate reporting of compliance matters, highlighting non‑compliance, compliance risks and areas for improvement.
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, auditors, and other external stakeholders on compliance‑related matters. Represent the organisation in compliance forums and industry groups.
Key Skills & Experience
  • Desirable bachelor's degree in law, finance, business, or a related field.
  • Experience in governance, compliance, or a related field.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organisation.
  • Detail‑oriented with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • High ethical standards and integrity, with a commitment to promoting a culture of compliance.
  • Understanding of compliance areas and requirements within the affordable housing sector.
  • Experience of managing and analysing data, and associated management reporting.
  • Experience with MS Office and excellent knowledge of Excel and Word applications.
