Overview

Complex Children's Speech and Language Therapist – Band 5, 37.5 hours, Fixed Term Post until 01/08/2026 (maternity cover)

Are you a qualified Speech & Language Therapist wanting to use your skills to work with children, young people and their families? Newly qualified therapists will be considered for this vacancy.

Main duties of the job

You will be working within our complex needs team supporting children with a range of communication difficulties in Tameside and Glossop (ages 0-19).

The role provides an excellent opportunity to work alongside dedicated professionals within a multi-disciplinary team providing a high quality, child-centred service.

We can offer clinical and management supervision, specialist support by experienced staff and continuing professional development.

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
  • BSc (Hons) or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy
  • Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registration
  • Member of Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists (RCSLT)
  • Full UK Driving Licence and Access to a vehicle for work
Knowledge
  • To be IT literate
  • Excellent knowledge of child development
  • Good working knowledge of therapy
  • Child Protection Awareness
  • Understanding of evidence based practice and the implications for clinical practice
  • To have knowledge of electronic patient management systems e.g. EMIS
  • Knowledge of Early Help Assessment framework and common processes and theoretical models
Experience
  • Experience of working /clinical placement with children with SLCN
  • Evidence of current and ongoing CPD
  • Previous experience gained in NHS setting
  • Experience of managing or supervising therapy assistants and technical instructors
Skills
  • To be competent in assessing a range of communication difficulties, devising SMART targets and providing treatments.
  • To be able to prioritise and plan own workload appropriately.
  • To have good communications skills and be able to adapt to sometimes sensitive or difficult circumstances.
  • To be a positive member of the team and be able to motivate children and adapt treatment plans to individual children\'s needs.
