Job description

I’m supporting a high-profile national programme to hire an experienced Communications & Engagement Manager who can lead sensitive, complex and reputation-critical comms for a major Redress Scheme.

This is a rare opportunity to contribute to meaningful, visible change at a national level. The programme is closely observed by Parliament, the media and the wider public, so we’re looking for someone who can bring real clarity, structure and confidence to how the organisation communicates.

What the role involves:
  • Leading comms and stakeholder engagement strategy across a large, national programme
  • Acting as a key interface with diocesan and cathedral safeguarding leads, NCI teams and external media
  • Managing and coordinating a PR supplier, understanding risks, hidden traps and reputation-critical issues
  • Proactive crisis comms planning – not just reacting, but anticipating, preparing and mitigating
  • Running stakeholder engagement meetings, including working with volunteer survivors to ensure lived experience shapes messaging
  • Developing and maintaining FAQs, awareness campaigns and Scheme-launch materials
  • Liaising across digital channels, press teams and comms colleagues to ensure consistent, sensitive communication
  • Reporting engagement risks and insights into governance boards
  • Supporting Scheme launch with robust strategic comms planning
Who will thrive in this role:
  • A senior communications professional with strong PR, media and crisis management experience (potentially central gov)
  • Someone who has worked directly with vulnerable people or survivors (any sector – social care, policing, local authority, domestic abuse, trauma-informed services, etc)
  • A confident writer with excellent judgement, emotional intelligence and the ability to operate in high-stakes environments
  • Someone proactive, structured, adaptable and able to take the lead without waiting for direction

Location: London (hybrid)

Length: 10-month FTC (project runs to Sept 2026)

Salary: £68,999
