Commercial Officer

On behalf of the MOD, we are seeking a Commercial Officer (Inside IR35) for a 6-month contract based in Bristol, working 2 days per week.

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is a central government department dedicated to protecting our country, ensuring security and independence, and supporting values and interests abroad.

The MOD is one of Europe's largest public procurement organizations and the UK's biggest customer for industry, managing approximately £20 billion annually on equipment and infrastructure. Over the next decade, it plans to spend over £190 billion on equipment and support. Its customers include armed forces and security agencies, with requirements spanning military vehicles, education, nuclear submarines, and facilities management.

The MOD aims to equip its armed forces with the best capabilities to safeguard the UK and promote national interests now and in the future.

With an annual budget of nearly £53 billion and a workforce of 197,000 (including 54,000 civilians), the MOD offers impactful roles across the UK, including in HR, healthcare, and corporate services.

As a Commercial Officer, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting Commercial Managers with administrative tasks, financial analysis, and stakeholder engagement to facilitate smooth commercial operations.
  • Maintaining accurate records and managing procurement-related correspondence and data.
  • Assisting in supply market analysis to inform procurement strategies and improve market understanding.
  • Contributing to programme planning, procurement strategies, and contracting approaches.
  • Participating in procurement processes such as market research, tendering, and contract management.
  • Preparing reports on commercial performance and supporting sourcing plan development in line with Defence policies and regulations.

Essential requirements include:

  • Strong understanding of commercial principles and public sector procurement regulations.
  • Experience supporting tenders via CCS frameworks.
