Overview

Leading rail main contracting company seeks a Commercial Manager with experience of working in the rail industry for an outside IR35 contract opportunity in Birmingham. Reporting to the Senior Commercial Manager, you will provide essential commercial support throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring delivery within time and budget constraints.

Responsibilities
  • Managing project work package change control, cost and budget management, and forecasting
  • Serving as the primary commercial interface for work package managers, and providing contractual and commercial support to Project Managers and Engineers
  • Contributing to internal and external commercial reports as per the Commercial Delivery Strategy
  • Ensuring compliance with company standards in all processes and document controls
  • Maintaining auditable records in line with contractual requirements
  • Collaborating with finance, project management, engineering teams, sub-contractors, suppliers, and clients
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Experience in Quantity Surveying within a contractor-side project environment, ideally within rail, engineering, or construction industries
  • Degree-qualified and/or holding or working towards a professional qualification (e.g., RICS, ICES)
  • Proficiency in handling direct labour and subcontract costs, estimating changes and variations, and forecasting costs
  • Strong commercial acumen with good negotiation skills
  • Ability to work independently under cost or time-critical conditions, managing expectations effectively
  • Confidence in dealing with stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally
